– "Joe Iginla's Moment: Why the Hockey Spotlight is Headed His Way

By Dahlia

It's a great place to see the stars of the future and gives the young players much-needed confidence in their first full season of junior hockey.

Composed of two Canadian teams, Team USA, Sweden, Finland, and Czechia, this year's Sarnia will see one legendary player don the Canada Red uniform: Joe Iginla.

Joe Iginla is the youngest son of Hall of Famer Jarome Iginla and plays in his first full season with the Edmonton Oil Kings. The young right winger has two points in 11 games for a good Oil Kings team, but he showed promise last year with five points in five games.

"It was definitely nice to dip my toes in and see what the level was like," Iginla said. "It will really help for this year, I hope."

Iginla spent most of last season with Rink Hockey Academy in Kelowna playing in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL), the highest development circuit for kids before the 'Dub.' The WHL's pace was the toughest adjustment.

Although the CSSHL was unusually good, Joe couldn't have been better reared than having been brought up an Iginla or a summer prep dearer than all-star prep in summer.

"I spent a lot of time with my dad and brother and sister working on skating and down-low play and keeping the puck with you on turns," said, "It's a lot about skating, mostly."

Along with dad Jarome, there's big brother Tij, the Utah first-rounder and WHL Kelowna standout, and older sister Jade, who won gold with Canada at the World Under-18s and is a point-per-game player for Brown University. How was it growing up in a famous hockey family?
