“Sabrina Carpenter’s Concert Brings Sweetness, Light, and Playful Vibes”

From Baltimore: In the unlikely event there ever is another live-action remake of “Cinderella,” the star already has been found.

Disney royalty literally came to life in the form of Sabrina Carpenter, who has ascended to the throne of pop princess over the past decade.

She’s 25, and her smooth songs-which are seasoned with a little bit of zest-fill the void that’s left by all of those pop stars who come to town visiting. Too bad her voice is as honeyed as she can be, but her blond hair is beautiful, and she’s flirty.

Carpenter hypnotized a sold-out CFG Bank Arena crowd on Saturday, the eighth stop of the Short n’ Sweet Tour, Carpenter’s first arena run that keeps her on the road until November.

This is a fanciful mashup of Barbie Dreamhouse and an episode of “Three’s Company.” It’s pitched as a variety show from the 1970s, complete with on-screen advisories like “filmed in front of a live studio audience,” and before the flirting “Bed Chem,” it warns that “parental discretion is advised.”

The staircases in her “penthouse,” she calls it, are lacquered white, there’s a sheer-curtained alcove for her four-piece band, and there’s a washroom with a heart-shaped mirror into which she sang “Sharpest Tool.

Because the crowd loves the girly-girl style that Carpenter presents, the arena was packed to the gills with more pink than a cotton candy factory. There were children in glittering gowns being hoisted through the air by their fathers, and twentysomethings in short skirts with ruffled skirts.

She greeted her audience with the words, “Good morning, Baltimore,” and sneaky nod to the musical “Hairspray.” That was one of many times Carpenter greeted her audience during the act, between her staging an onstage pajama party.

As Carpenter’s feminine pack of dancers dangled on a staircase as she crooned “Lie to Girls,” the performance was full with sad faces and fluttery voices. Meanwhile, the singer herself sashayed down the catwalk for an appealingly jazzy rendition of “Feather.”

According to Carpenter, while acknowledging the heightened crowd screaming, “This is the most fun thing in the world for me.” She praised the crowd for their enthusiastic response.

When making the remarks, it was not clear if she was speaking of the performance in general or the highlight that followed after her remarks.

To create a rather easy hang at the heart-shaped point of the catwalk, Carpenter even prepared the throw pillows meant for some members of her band and also some dancers to rest against. She did all this just to let everyone breathe in.

Still an evolving song, “Coincidence” shone bright with the enthusiasm of a bubblegum throughout as it was penned, and during that period, she unveiled the crown jewel that her fans had been wanting to see at her concerts: her version of the song with which she entered the pop firmament.

Not only does Carpenter’s voice match well with the song, but her character does too. “Sing it if you know it!” she urged the crowd, which, despite the throngs of young people in attendance, knew the song-a nice touch, by the way: on a screen, in karaoke format, came the lyrics.

In concert, Sabrina Carpenter runs the full gamut of emotions.

The last third of the show is Carpenter’s contemporary set of hits, and the song “Juno” from the “Short n’ Sweet.” Carpenter has generally introduced new poses at each performance, and with this production, one-legged, bent-knee caused a commotion from the audience. The words “have you ever tried this one?” have been to blame for that.

Inevitably, Carpenter ended the show with the obligatory “Espresso,” a confetti-dropping, pure pop hook-laden blast. As she was making some comment about their outfit, she suddenly welled up. She covered her hand over her mouth and fought off tears of gratitude as she thanked the crowd.

The biggest thing that makes Carpenter’s own transformation from a middling pop singer (“Emails I Can’t Send” from 2022) and Taylor Swift tour-opener to the current char-ruling royalty in itself is that this year has been a long distance from her leading role on the Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World” (2014-2017).

You might almost claim that it’s a narrative about Cinderella going on.
