Julianne Hough: ‘My Heart Is Open,’ ‘Not Searching’

Julianne Hough is not looking for love, but she’s certainly not closing the door to it, either.

When asked about dating on Dancing with the Stars, 36-year-old co-host Julianne Hough said she was just along for the ride.

“Honestly, I am just keeping my heart open and kind of just letting the seasons flow and I’m focussing on Dancing With The Stars,” she stated in an interview. “But my heart remains open, I am ready for it, but am not actively searching for anything.”

As if that wasn’t enough, the media celebrity dished out the smallest hint that dating was “not even definitely at the top” of her list of priorities, but she did leave with the feeling that her craving for romance was still “there.” There is this interim period, though, and Hough is said to have revealed that she has been prioritizing taking care of herself.

“For me, I just feel like it’s just a part of my life,” she said. “It’s just something that happens to me.” In all likelihood, it will never become a destination in the first place.

The open and honest statement that Hough has made regarding her life follows from when she decided to reveal every piece of her former three-year relationship with Ryan Seacrest.

In an episode of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast that dropped August 12, the professional dancer admitted she was hesitant because they started dating around the same time as she began to rise to fame. She was worried it could send the wrong message because of Seacrest’s stature and pre-existing standing in the Hollywood industry.

“I was just flying, and I was experiencing things that I did not know existed,” Hough said. “The rug was swept up from underneath me, and I was the one who was experiencing them.” But later on, I felt insecure, and to myself, I said, “I never want anyone to think that I am with him because of this reason.”

She recalled that he said at one point the American Idol host, whom both the actress and Shepard referred to as “a lovely guy,” had a problem with people “using him” and she wanted very much to disabuse anyone of the notion that she was doing the same thing.

“I too changed my behaviour to suit another’s needs for their happiness,” she said. I liked being loved even though I do not believe that I have ever known love. Being liked was fun.

Hough and Seacrest met when she came on his radio show with her boyfriend at the time, Chuck Wicks. The couple did not begin dating until the summer of 2010, however, after Hough had already called it quits with Wicks. After the end of her relationship with Seacrest in 2013, the professional dancer began dating the hockey star Brooks Laich.

They got married the knot back in 2017 but actually filed for divorce in 2020 and will settle their separation terms in 2022.
