‘John Wick’ Director Chad Stahelski Producing Action-Mystery Thriller ‘The Professionals’

When one of the hired murderers dies, the story follows a group of others who are stranded at a country estate trying to figure out what is happening.

If you are a hired killer in a movie, chances are you will either A) try to retire only for your past to catch up with you, B) find a horrible conspiracy at the core of your government or company and have to go against your own, or C) somehow become a target yourself when you are double-crossed somehow.

From the sounds of it, the script for “The Professionals” will follow the third path but with a novel approach.

The Hollywood Reporter claims Lionsgate has acquired the rights to the screenplay, which is being characterized as “Clue” meets “John Wick.” The latter title is especially relevant since “Wick” maestro Chad Stahelski has agreed to produce the film under his 87Eleven business.

Though like “The Avengers, it could eventually undergo a title change if it makes it over there,” “The Professionals” follows a group of contract killers stranded in an English countryside estate when one of them is murdered and the remaining group has to solve the death. Nothing has to do with the 1970s or 1980s cop show from the UK.

Originally written by Hunter Perot, the grandson of late business executive and presidential candidate Ross Perot, Madison Turner, a stuntman-turned-scribe, is the son of Tierre Turner, a stunt performer and coordinator with credits on films including “Training Day” and is currently on TV series “9-1-1.”

Turner wrote “Adam,” an action vehicle Anthony Mackie put up for Netflix. And he earlier landed his Blacklist script “The Liberators” at Warner Bros. with Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society and Safehouse Pictures set to produce.

Will Chad Stahelki oversee “The Professionals”?

Stahelski might not have time on his calendar to really oversee the script, even though he is obviously excited about it. And he has always been about allowing people to manage movies.

Though nothing has been legally confirmed (save from Lionsgate mentioning it), he is preparing to film the remake of “Highlander” with Henry Cavill starring. His fifth “John Wick” outing is also under development right now.

Since Stahelski oversees the entire franchise, the “Wick” world also absorbs some of his producing time. Directed by Len Wiseman, the Ana de Armas–starring spin-off “Ballerina,” is expected in theaters on June 6th next year.

‘The Professionals’ would show on screen when?

Consider this one still in development limbo until cameras are rolling without a director in place, without casting, and without a shooting date. It might be with us before 2025 if it casts swiftly and shoots soon.

Conclusion:

Chad Stahelski’s involvement in The Professionals promises a high-octane blend of action and mystery, much like his previous work in John Wick. With Stahelski producing, fans can expect a thrilling mash-up that combines intense fight sequences with a captivating mystery storyline. Stahelski’s reputation for groundbreaking action choreography raises expectations for a visually stunning and narratively engaging film. The Professionals is shaping up to be a must-watch for action lovers and mystery enthusiasts alike, solidifying Stahelski’s status as a leading figure in the action genre.
